Since I often get asked how to meet critique partners and beta readers, it seemed like it might be helpful to the Misfits & Daydreamers community if I opened up a place for all 14,000+ members to connect!
If you’re in need of a secondary reader, share the following in a comment:
Title (or working title, code name! Just something for easy reference)
Genre (e.g. fantasy, mystery, romance—get specific, if you can, with subgeneres too)
Reading level (e.g. adult, YA, MG)
Word count
What you’re looking for in a reader (e.g. a quick gut check, a thorough editorial pass, a cheerleader to read as you write)
If you see someone’s project that interests you, leave a reply and figure out how to get in touch outside the comments section. ☺️
Oh, and I highly recommendthatno one share their ENTIRE manuscript right away. Treat this like dating! Only share a few chapters initially, so you can get a feeling for how your writing and critiquing styles align. If the vibe is there, keep sharing! If the vibe ain’t there…then no hard feelings. Better to be honest that your styles don’t match than to keep reading when neither of you is enjoying it.
Your book sounds interesting and I'm also looking for writer friends and CPs. If you're interested in mine please let me know as I'd love to help with yours!
A Symphony to the Dark - A Welsh dark Fantasy/ Supernatural about a girl who longs to be a singer, a cursed house and the darkness that stalks the halls.
Rough draft is 65K but will hopefully be completed around 85K.
Looking for a cheerleader to help me through second draft and someone to read through and point out where the plot is completely going wrong (or right…which I hope happens too).
I left a message for Kate, and I’d like to see if you and I could help each other out too, if you’re up for that? Chapter by chapter, so we can keep the feedback quick and easy?
Hi Naomi! I really like your pitch. It's something I would pick off the shelves. I don't know if you'd like my current work, but if you want to, I'd like to exchange a chapter to just see if it's a fit. And I can at least read and feedback yours with some cheer! If you're interested, I'll give you my e-mail.
My story is about two girls who discover their colour magic in a world where countries are coming to a clash. There's romance, cats, combat action, rock climbing and visually interesting magic. It's New Adult Fantasy, and I would love some first impression feedback on a few chapters.
Hi Naomi, I love Welsh voices & all kinds of dark fantasies, curses, and the works. I left a mention of my work in progress further down in the replies (vampire tale with rom-com vibes in Eastern Europe, set in a real castle I’ve been to with a dark history) Please send me a message through the contact form on my website if you want to swap a few pages to see if we’re a good match-- www.jwellenhall.com
I'm jumping on the train that Carryn hopped below (I think we might all dig our different-yet-similar flavor of stories. If you are up to read chapters on whatever timeline you are comfortable with...I would too!
Hi Naomi, this sounds completely gorgeous and like something I'd love to read!
I've got YA near future dystopic fantasy that's just about ready for revisions. I've commented the details further down, but if you're interested I'd love to swap some chapters?
Ok let’s try this... I’m looking for a CP or beta reader for a graphic novel script. If you’re familiar with any kind of script reading you’ll probably be able to read/critique. 🤞🏼
Title: Goodbye City
Genre: sci-fi/post apocalyptic Graphic Novel
Reading level: YA
Word count: 36k
What you’re looking for in a reader: someone that can help point out plot problems, character growth, and overall has a good sense of story
I completed a graphic novel last year (that is now in the art phase!) and I worked with two developmental editors on my final scripts (meaning, I think I'm qualified to beta read, especially because I write and read in genre).
Reverie and Ruin, a YA contemporary fantasy (not finished with draft, working on second half).
Looking for beta reader when the draft if finished (April 2023) for cheerleading for second draft, and first impression on world-building, pacing, characters and mystery!
Rough pitch is The Curseworkers + The Magicians + Monstress
That sounds great, Carryn! I won't be ready to start sending chapters until late spring (my first draft right now only makes sense to me) but I'm open/ready to start reading others work, cheerleading and helping transform challenges into breakthroughs.
That's perfect. I'll be on your back burner. If you'd like to take a look at KSS (affectionate name), I'd be grateful for your feedback. My email is carrynkerr@gmail.com. If you drop me an email, I'll send you links, etc.
Any thoughts you have, questions, etc. would be great. I can send you the chapters in audio if you prefer.
Hi Kate, we’re on a similar timeline, and both fantasy, albeit different types. Mine is more of a colorful high fantasy. If you’re interested in swapping, let me know!
I would definitely like to learn more (I love high fantasy) and see if we could be a good fit for each other (and at the very least, you've now met a new writing friend!). You can reach me at kmrnyu at gmail.
That would be lovely! This forum is fantastic and I am loving that we've all connected and found solidarity and support in one day. I will reach out to the email provided by end of week!
Hi there! I'd love to read your book, especially since I enjoy a good time travel story. I've got a lot of experience with structuring novels, so I'd be happy to help you try and figure out where you're losing reader momentum. My book is a YA Fantasy around 101,000 words and you can see more about it in my post below!
Hi Carryn, seems like we're at similar stage with our manuscripts. Details of mine are below. Email me at ameliahearn@gmail.com if you'd like to swap some chapters. Thanks!
TITLE: Starweaver
SHORT SUMMARY: In the last city on Earth, the heir of a disgraced exploring dynasty just wants to find the truth about her father’s scandalous death, but instead discovers a dark secret that threatens the whole city.
GENRE: Sci-fi
READING LEVEL: YA
WORD COUNT: 118k (but mainly looking for feedback on first quarter)
PROJECT STAGE: Final edits before querying (fifth draft)
CRIT PARTNER: I’m looking mainly for gut reads pre-query and I’m happy to do any type of reading in any genre. I read mostly YA to keep an eye on what’s being published, but in general I’ll read pretty much anything :) I have a degree in creative writing and work in advertising as a strategist.
Hi Casey! I feel like our stories sound pretty similar in length/content (you can ref my comment if you'd like!), but would you like to swap a few chapters? I'd be happy to help -- I've beta read and done line edits before
Hi Casey, would love to swap with someone else working on sci-fi. Details of mine are below. Email me at ameliahearn@gmail.com if you'd like to swap some chapters. Thanks!

Psionics are a particular love of mine (and feature heavily in my fantasy read/writing). I love reading/writing NA, so maybe we'd be a good fit. Maybe we can trade reads. (currently working on NA Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy)
I've beta read for several different authors/writers in various genres (Contemporary Romance, Paranormal, SF/Dystopian) and love doing barnstorming sessions with other writers.
I'd love to connect with you. Let me know if you want more details on my WIP.
The Slayer and her Shadow- a ya/new adult fantasy about a girl whose destiny is to slay a shadow god, only to end up with the god bound to her shadow. enemies to lovers, gods, skyrim-medieval feel, elemental magic system, themes of self identity and pursuing one’s own life choices.
i’ve finished outlining and worldbuilding and honestly need a cheerleader to help me start the process- i write fanfiction and have gotten too attached to immediate gratification. 😅
Hi! I’d be interested. I think being a cheerleader would be great and also help me reflect on my own story. I loooove worldbuilding and Skyrim and elemental magic lol so if you’re interested, let me know. 😊
This worldbuilding sounds amazing! I am currently revising my own YA fantasy novel (quick pitch: early modern Mediterranean world +mythical creatures). Would be willing to swap after some more revisions, but would also be happy just to read/cheerlead/ connect. shannongifford2@gmail.com
Hi Stephanie, your story sounds amazing and I'm intrigued! My stories are also related to shadows, lots of deities, elemental magic and new adult/adult (with lots of romance), all set in different realms (sort of a multiverse?). Let me know if you are still interested in an extra set of eyes, as a CP or BR, or to exchange first chapters :) my email is analoerbooks@gmail.com
Hey there! If you're looking for someone else to look through it this definitely sounds like something I would read. Something about mortals and gods who are enemies to lovers makes me so happy. I'm not the best with world building right away but I can cheerlead like the best of them!
Hey Allison, I plan on writing the opening scenes in the next two weeks. Would you be interested in having a look over? My email is galofthesage@gmail.com, but I also have a discord under the name Stephnsketch if you’re interested!
Like a Million Suns -- a sci-fi fantasy in a country inspired by Hispanic culture, namely Puerto Rican. Between YA and adult, I feel like it can bounce between either age range. Word Count: A whopping 164K, what I really want is someone to be brutal (but nice! haha) on what to chop.
And here's my logline! : Following disappearances of children and fantastical creatures, a devastating weapon emerges while an escapee and black market hustler are accused of assassinating a prince, drawing them into the turmoil.
Mischief & Mizery - an adult fantasy adventure following a tiefling named Mizery (goes by Miz) and her smuggling crew. (Based on my retired D&D character). Think heists, rivalries, magic, and betrayal.
Draft is currently almost finished. Will likely be around 60k. Like Kate, I’m looking for someone to begin swapping with in April as I go through the second draft and flesh things out.
Looking for feedback on pacing and tension, as well as humor and an overall general opinion.
Hi there! Your concept sounds like something I'd be quite interested in reading. I also write fantasy (though it's YA) and love D&D, so if your book has those vibes, I'm SO down. I'd like my own book to be read a bit earlier than April, but if you can't give yours to me until April, that'd actually work quite well! I'm in college right now, so getting your book toward the end of the semester will give me plenty of time to really dive into it and give the feedback you desire. My own novel, which you can read about in my own post, is a YA Fantasy with an adventure style plotline.
Hi! I also love D&D and would be interesting in reading, if you’d like to swap! My novel is also adult adventure-based fantasy and April would work great for me! While my novel is quite a bit longer (😅) I’d be happy to just trade 60k to match.
Hi Leslie :D As an avid dnd player who also writes adult fantasy, I'd love to connect! I've written details about my own project in the comments below, if you're interested in swapping feel free to shoot me an email at tinyowltavern@gmail.com :)
I would love to read this!! I am currently revising my own YA fantasy novel (quick pitch: early modern Mediterranean world +mythical creatures). Would be willing to swap after some more revisions, but would also be happy just to read/cheerlead/ connect. shannongifford2@gmail.com
Hey! This sounds like such a fun concept! I'm also writing a heist story (you can see my post!), though contemporary YA and not adult fantasy - but I do love adult fantasy! Mine is also quite humorous (hopefully lol) so would love to exchange feedback in that respect.
I am looking for feedback a bit earlier than April but I can be super flexible :) It sounds like you are wanting some cheerleading/swapping as you write the second draft? Sort of chapter by chapter? That's exactly what I'm looking for as well!
Middle Grade Fantasy (second-world). (see below for query)
MG
60,000
Thorough edits and a cheerleader! I've sent some queries and generally the feedback I received was they loved my concept, but not my pages. So I'm looking to change that. :) I'm in my final drafts, so I'm hoping for someone around the same stage -- prepping for trad querying.
Here's my query letter for anyone wanting more info! If you're interested, please let me know. :)
Twelve-year-old Ren Everhart has a problem: she can’t use her healing magic without her dad by her side, and she knows it won’t be long until she loses her apprenticeship because of it. But Ren’s problem gets even bigger when her dad goes missing, and she seems to be the only person wanting to find him.
She thinks she’s found a solution in an old book of legends. According to the book, the Lost Kingdom is home to magical beings who will grant Ren a wish if she can find them. Using her wish, Ren can reunite with her dad—and keep her apprenticeship. Together with a telepathic prince, his shape-shifting twin, and a farm boy, Ren sets off to find a place that might not exist but is her only hope at bringing her dad home.
But Ren and her friends aren’t the only ones hunting for the Lost Kingdom. In a world humming with dark magic, letting the Lost Kingdom fall into the wrong hands would be deadly for everyone. But all that matters to Ren is saving her dad’s life—even if it means she has to save the world along with it.
Hi there! Your concept sounds fantastic and engaging, and I would love to be able to read it. I'm about to enter the query trenches again myself and have experience beta reading through my college's creative writing club, so we may be a good match. My novel, which you'll be reading, is also in the final drafting stages (all I have left is line editing). It's a YA fantasy and you can read about it in my post below. Thanks for your consideration!
Hi Emily! I'd be happy to swap our first ten pages and see if we'd be a good fit. :) My email is becca.losey@gmail.com -- feel free to send me your pages and I'll send you mine.
Hi, I also write MG, my draft is not at the query stage but I would love to give feedback and perhaps get an honest perspective on what I’ve done so far. Your story sounds intriguing and I would be interested to read it. Let me know if you are interested!
Hi Kalo! I'd be happy to swap our first ten pages and see if we'd be a good fit. :) My email is becca.losey@gmail.com -- feel free to send me your pages and I'll send you mine.
I also have a MG Fantasy about the same word count. I'd def be down for a swap! If you're interested, we can do first chapter (s), let me know at williamjadams3@gmail.com
Here's the query letter:
Thirteen-year-old Galdifort Quillpen has grand dreams of writing epic tales of heroic deeds for the Academy of Valiant Adventurers, just like his famous aunt. Unfortunately, his first chronicle is about to be late because he’s been assigned to twelve-year-old Tanna the Tendersword, an excruciatingly carefree would-be-champion who can’t seem to find a qualifying entry-level quest.
When things are at their most miserable, the young questers meet an enigmatic old woman who not only gives Galdifort a magical journal written by his mysteriously missing aunt but offers Tanna a quest: follow a peg-legged, sword-wielding rooster to help save a crying mushroom lost within a haunted forest. Tanna heroically accepts, regardless of how incredibly unsafe the odd quest seems.
But Galdifort’s fears become reality when a soul-sucking sorceress sends her fog monster and lizard henchmen to retrieve his aunt’s journal. Only a full-fledged champion should confront a sorceress, and, in his eyes, Tanna is not up to the task. But if he wants to write his chronicle, and potentially discover the truth about his aunt, Galdifort must learn to do something he certainly isn’t comfortable doing — trust in honest friendship with Tanna the Tendersword. He’s just a chronicler, after all, not a hero!
Hi all! I’d love to find a critique partner for my adult Regency romance, super tentatively titled “Twice Married.” Ideally, I’d be interested in connecting with someone who also writes in that subgenre.
I completed the first draft last year and am in the middle of revisions. The manuscript is currently around 65,000 words. It’s got the marriage of convenience and friends-to-lovers tropes plus a strong female friendship and complex family dynamics.
Hi Meredith, I read a lot of regency romance and love your pitch. It sounds like something I would pick up immediately. I do have a lot of ideas for that genre that I would like to pursue, but I am currently working on a second draft of contemporary romance novel (adult) about two middle school teachers who navigate mental heath problems, family expectations, and falling in love. Think Kate Clayborn meets Emily Henry. I recently started revising so I have about 50,000 usable words. If you would like to connect I am @brittmcdaniel93 on twitter.
Hi Brittany, I’ve very recently started writing a contemporary romance book (literally at 12k words at the moment). It’s a multiple POV story about three friends navigating love and life in their twenties. I haven’t got Twitter, but if you’re up for a chapter swap then let me know your email or insta!
Hi Meredith, love this! I’m currently working on a draft of a regency romance I’ve written (friends to lovers, sitting at 82k words). Let me know if you fancy doing a swap!
Sounds awesome! I'd love to swap maybe a first chapter or something to see if we click? I'm meredithphillipswrites over on IG or email authormeredithphillips at gmail :-)
Genre: Contemporary romance with speculative elements
Reading level: Upper YA
Word count: Currently revising the rough draft to meet 80,000 words
Comps/themes/tropes etc.:
WE DON’T SWIM HERE x LORDS OF DOGTOWN x THE OUTERBANKS
-Biracial Filipina MC
-Setting as character (a cursed, small coastal town in South Carolina)
-Grungy crew of pirate-descended skateboarders
-Enemies to friends to lovers
-Slow burn, angsty, forbidden romance
-Forced proximity
-Pirate lore/history
-Sirens
-Dual POV
-Reincarnation
- MC must go through the initiation process before she belongs
- “Does this scare you?”
I’ve finished the first draft of my manuscript and am currently in revisions. The first 8 chapters have been revised and are ready for a second pair of eyes. I would love to find a critique partner and cheerleader to help push me through revisions in an honest yet encouraging way. I’m mostly concerned about pacing and plot holes at the moment. Would prefer someone who’s already familiar with critique etiquette. In return, you can expect me to return the same energy, to be honest yet encouraging. I also have an MFA in creative writing and a master’s in library and information science so I’m very familiar with all things books and creative writing :) Thank you!
It's a book all about subverting classic fantasy tropes.
Ellowen is a wild child princess with a curse that will never be broken. With the Chosen One dead and Fate destroyed, the hero destined to free her will never come. She yearns for excitement, which is difficult to find under the iron grip of her mother. It seems her life will finally be shaken up when she is placed in an arranged marriage. However, Ellowen is horrified to find that her fiancé is the son of the Dark Lord. Despite her ill feelings toward him, he seems to be her last hope to break the curse and get her ultimate dream; freedom. That is, unless Ellowen can find another option...
The story follows her quest to find an alternative way to break her curse. I don't want to give too much away spoiler-wise, but know that the book is primarily a fantasy adventure with travel and action and character drama.
Finished and revised draft is around 101,000 words (or 380 ish Word pages double spaced).
I'm looking for something to give honest feedback about big picture elements, such as character development, plot, and general pacing. Basically, you get to read semi-casually and discuss what works and what doesn't!
Email me at: emilygibbsauthor@gmail.com to talk! I'll try to check the comments here, but I may not spot them in a timely manner haha.
What I'm looking for is a constructive reader. I'm not going to lie, a cheerleader would be nice a nice boost, a vote of confidence goes a long way in the gruelling and competitive process of publishing. Sometimes I stew in my insecurity that I'm not good enough and neither is my work. But above a avid supporter, I need someone who is going to be brutally honest with criticism and feedback that won't throttle me but help me improve. And hopefully, you do become immersed in the read, so it doesn't feel like a task.
Please and thank you! I appreciate your invaluable time for any takers.
Mbali this sounds a lot like my situation too and reading/writing interests (funny our titles have some of the same words too 😄) I got partway through a full rewrite and lost steam because I really need outside constructive perspective on a rolling basis to help me see what I can't see in my work, like if I'm losing the throughline. I also prefer the mutual uplifting rather than throttling form of support! I am writing secondary world silk road fantasy that feels historical, inspired by S. Asia, wc is up in the air. Sits on the line of YA crossover/Adult. Let me know if you're interested in swapping some chapters or connecting!
To both Mbali and Hana - I would love to read! I am currently revising my own YA fantasy novel (quick pitch: early modern Mediterranean world of exchange + mythical creatures. Deeply inspired by my history major) . Would be willing to swap after some more revisions, but would also be happy just to read/cheerlead/ connect. shannongifford2@gmail.com
Hi, new here, looking forward to making some friends.
Currently polishing a YA fantasy based on Bulgarian folklore, getting it ready to query. Would always appreciate more feedback and would love a critique partner for the query too.
It's finished at almost 90k.
Next project already brewing is an Adult speculative I'd like to pitch as The Good Place x Seven (of only the comps were not ancient, haha). It's still in the plotting stage before 0 draft, but in the meantime I'd have more time to give feedback than receive ;))
More about me: I'm mostly a fantasy reader/writer, but I aim to read more widely. I'm an old school metalhead, mom of two (little one is only a couple of months old), which makes finding time to read and write more challenging, but there's still hope :))
Hi Yoanna, I'm also new here and would be interested in swapping with you. From my comment:
Soul of the Familiar -YA Fantasy, 98k, looking for structural comments / character feedback (ie gut check).
One Paragraph Pitch:
After grief robs Brynn Novak of the will to live, it’s her abduction by a strange white-haired man that robs her of her home. Her senior dog Effie in tow, Brynn discovers a new world where magic is wielded through the aid of a familiar—and it just so happens that Effie is one of them. After finding love, confidence, and healing, Brynn overcomes her limitations, both self-imposed and magical, to rescue the man she loves from a genocidal, power-hungry despot—her father.
Hi, that sounds very cool! (Says the girl who has a shelved project with familiar-based magic 😁😁). Do you have a synopsis I could looks at and see about exchanging chapters after? Cheers!
Hi! Your concept sounds really interesting, and as someone who loves folklore I’d love to read if you’d like to swap! My project is very different though haha (adult fantasy, long but really only looking for feedback on the first half right now). Our reading habits also sound very similar haha!
Hi Yoanna! I’m also getting my story ready to query! It’s a YA Fantasy based on Ethiopian folklore (Title: Blood of Abyssinia if you wanna see my post on here). I love the sound of your projects and would love to swap a few chapters if you’re interested. Let me know :)
Hey, sounds like you and I are practically sharing a boat, haha. Would love to read a similar projects with another mythology (especially since African folklore is so varied and vastly different than European). I'd love to get in touch! 😃
Hey Yoanna, my current manuscript is sci-fi, but I'm also getting ready to query and a mom of two little ones, so I thought we might have a bit in common. Details of my project are below. Email me at ameliahearn@gmail.com if you're interested in swapping chapters.
Your book sounds pretty cool. I have an old/left for the future project that explores some similar situations, so I'll be happy to read more in that realm.
Hi Yoanna, your project looks really interesting. I'd love to do a swap of a few chapters to see if we might be a good fit. I've also done a lot of work with other CPs getting queries ready to go. I'm currently working on a queer YA fantasy about about three witch sisters dealing with a magical bargain in a small town. There's a lot of necromancy and secrets involved. Let me know if you are interested and we can swap synopsis or pages. :D
Wow, I can't believe so many people took interest in my vague and not entirely thought out post.
Just to add some clarity:
My YA project is a sort of retelling of one of the most famous Bulgarian fairy tales (The Three Brothers and the Golden Apple) with elements from other tales and a little family story intertwined. It's about a parallel/portal world and the importance of power versus integrity and self-discovery.
The Adult project will start taking shape only after I've sent a batch of queries out for the YA, hopefully by April.
The premise is about a paper town that actually exists only to those lingering between life and death, Heaven and Hell, working towards "earnings their wings" and a man who seems intent on keeping everyone there forever.
Always, Audrey White -- an upmarket, contemporary queer adult novel about an only child who, after her dad unexpectedly passes away, finds out that she has a long-lost sister -- who is the result of a polyamorous relationship between her mom, dad, and her sister's mom long ago.
Draft is completed at 81K
Looking for a reader to critique and give advice about what works and what doesn't, especially in the beginning as I'm querying agents currently with this manuscript.
Hi, I would be happy to read/critique for you! I'll admit that I am not experienced in officially critiquing for an author, BUT I am an avid reader of 100+ books a year, I have proofreading/editing experience for peers from when I was in college, plus I am an only child with a dead dad so there is a sense of relatability for the mindset of your main character. My email is katie.erickson11@gmail.com if you'd like to chat further!
If you're interested in more than one reader I'd love to read for you. I've been a CP in the past for YA and am writing an upmarket YA myself. You can email me at lientaylore@gmail.com if you'd like to chat further.
Dark high fantasy, second half still unfinished, first half is about 60/70k. Adult
About: A runaway son of a noble, on a journey to earn his freedom from an ancient cult of magic. A crown Prince with magic he can’t control, who might just have to turn over every hidden secret in the palace in order to get answers.
And a murder mystery that forces them to work together— for better or worse.
Reader: I feel like it’s a bit messy right now w/ several side plots so looking for someone who can help me get the big stuff all aligned, so I can revise for the small stuff later! (And as said above— for now it’s just the first half of the novel.)
Central themes: friendship, right and wrong, family, magic, curses, imperial politics, adventure, ancient magical cults & mafia, murder, minor side romanc, LGBT.
Contact: IG linked in profile (thewriteratlas) Can also email, egwwriter @ gmail.
This sounds like a job for me :-) I've been studying story structure for the past few years in an effort to enhance my own, and have given similar structure feedback to another CP that was well-received. My book has a mafia element, too, check out my paragraph on this thread!
I'm savannahjfoley on twitter, instagram, etc. if you want to reach out :-)
I'm an avid fantasy reader/writer and would love to read! I am currently revising my own YA fantasy novel (quick pitch: early modern Mediterranean world +mythical creatures. Sounds like it shares some similar themes as your project). Would be willing to swap after some more revisions, but would also be happy just to read/cheerlead/ connect. shannongifford2@gmail.com
Genre: Fantasy—alternate reality, urban, and environmental
Adult
Haden is a wizard barely passing his university classes when one day his favorite pair of shoes that his father gave him as a gift are stolen by goblins. He has to go to Goblin Island in order to get them back but becomes trapped there. That is when he is discovered by Liza, a powerful wizard hiding from the government on the island, who tells him the island is being drained of its magic and is slowly dying. The only way he can get off the island and back to his life is if he makes a deal with her and helps find the person draining the island's magic.
Content warning: my main character does have a history of a mentaly abusive non-romantic relationship that will come up in the book as well as a history of mental illness.
I don't have comps but Jasper Fforde comes to mind in some of the humor, I think?
I'm on my second draft and have completed fourteen chapters so far. I will be done with it at the end of march probably around 90-95K words. I am more than willing to start swapping chapters now until I can send the rest of the draft later. I would really love a CP who can help give feedback on tension, world building, and character development and I would be more than willing to do the same. I'd be best at reading mostly sci/fi fantasy but also historical fiction.
Title: All These Violent Ends, a fantasy about a supernatural mercenary and his would be victim who become blood bonded together and find out both of their lives aren't what they thought they were.
Genre: Fantasy with strong romantic subplot
Reading level: Adult
Word count: 96,600
What you’re looking for in a reader: A thorough editorial pass. I've edited this a few times, but want to get new eyes on it and opinions!
Hey Elizabeth, I'm interested in reading this for sure! No need to swap either, I enjoy a good fantasy with a strong romantic subplot (especially enemies to lovers) and could help with some feedback as a lover of the genre :) you can email me at analoerbooks@gmail.com
Hey Elizabeth, who doesn't love a good being-pushed-together-by-circumstances trope. Definitely sounds cool. One piece of advice I have is, consider changing the title, it's way too close to Chloe Gong's Our Violent Ends which is still quite new and was very big as well (although I admit I haven't yet started the first part yet).
Hi Elizabeth! This seems right up my alley and seems like it shares similar themes to my own NA fantasy romance (114k) I truly am a sucker for enemies to lovers. If you are interested in swapping let me know! You can email me at akane414@gmail.com

I fear for what having a senior dog as a focal character will do to my heartstrings, but I am definitely interested. I wrote a brief synopsis of my current WIP. Please email me at twistingallegoriesagain[at]gmail[dot]com if you'd like to exchange a few chapters.
Hi! I'm looking for a CP / accountability partner. Would love to find someone who will bug me to send them 20-ish pages a week. I'll do the same for you (whatever your goal is).
Current project: YA mystery. Pitch is Hype House meets Only Murders In The Building, with a sprinkling of The Maid. Teen housekeeper with chronic illness has to team up w/ a popular YouTuber to investigate a murder in an influencer mansion. Comps more to The Agathas or Truly Devious than, say, The Cheerleaders. CW for murder and discussion of past death of a parent. (projected length is 75K)
I'm previously published in YA and am trying to get back in. I'll also soon be drafting an adult upmarket historical (set in the 1970s NYC theatre scene).
I love critiquing and beta reading. However, I'm MUCH better at feedback for contemp-set books. I will definitely struggle to provide strong feedback for second-world fantasy or anything with a complex magic system. I read mostly romance, adult litfic, and contemp YA.
Hi Lauren! This sounds right up my alley and I would love to chat more. I am in the early stages of my next WIP (my current adult romcom is being queried right now). My WIP is a contemp adult romance suspense (I'm still figuring out the exact sub genres) inspired by Poe with some second chance/murder mystery vibes going on. I'm looking for both a CP / accountability partner as I'm working through this one. Interested in swapping a few pages to do a vibe check?
Hi, Lauren! My name is Lou. Our projects seem very similar (Mine is a darkly comedic adult literary thriller about a cultish boyband fandom)! We're in different stages (Mine is heavily polished and nearly ready for the querying stage), but I'd totally be up for reading your work. Let me know if you'd be interested in swapping a few chapters or in simply letting me read yours, if mine isn't up your alley, as I'm very, very fascinated by your pitch. I'm very well-versed in modern, internet pop culture (as shown in a lot of my work) and I think I could help. My email is lourdesbellerose@gmail.com
Hi Lou! I'm glad you commented here because I was thinking to comment on the description of yours as well! My Year of R&R is my favorite book and I'm 100% in for anything that comps to it. Will send you an email and we can swap a few chapters!
Hi Lauren, both of your projects sounds so great! I don't write YA, but I do read a lot (I'm in a YA book club) and I am a huge mystery reader as well, as it's one of my comfort-read genres. I write mainly upmarket contemporary adult, leaning literary - your 1970s theatre wip sounds right up my alley actually! The project I'm querying at the moment is a literary coming of age set in the 60s and I'm currently drafting a project inspired by the musical Company (set in modern London, about adulthood settling in for real, marriage, and changing friendships). I am looking for a CP for support while drafting as well as someone I can rely on for beta-reading feedback. Let me know if you'd be interested in swapping pages!
Oh how I’ve been looking for something like this! Thank you, Sooz!
IN THE WICKED DAYS
YA Contemporary Fantasy I’d pitch as WILD IS THE WITCH x OUTLANDER. A Salem-esque town haunted by mysterious tragedy, gay warlock lovers locked in a slow burn romance, a cursed sister hellbent on revenge, magical time travel, a bloody October gala, a crow familiar named Pierre… it’s all there :)
Currently 2/3 into the first draft (about 55k in) and I’d love to swap chapters with other writers. I’m looking for both cheerleaders and critiques when necessary! Stuff like pacing, show vs telling, etc. let me know!
- a YA dark academia, romance-free urban/fantasy/sci-fi that follows four queer teens on their perilous quest to seal a magical rift between the fabrics of their four dimensions.
it's like star-crossed lovers but make it platonic, because all four protagonists' are bound to each other by an invisible thread through time and space. they have to navigate dimensions deceived of lies, treachery, as well as face the consequences of their past mistakes and actions. it combines lots of my favorite things, such as found family and my love for astrophysics and astronomy (yes there is time-travel involved too). The idea is still in the makes so the main plot is still subject to change.
I'm still working on the first draft( just planning and outlining it so far, no actual writing) but I'm hoping to have the whole thing done by the end of April 2023(I'm ambitious because I'm following a 12-week novel writing plan), and I'd like someone to bounce off ideas with throughout my process. If you have a project on your own, I'd love to be there to cheerlead/help with ideas/inspiration/motivation as well.
Exciting! I would love to try and connect with other writers.
I'm looking for: first impression feedback on plot, style, world and characters. I'm also interested in finding a writing buddy in my genre. You read mine, I read yours, we support each other.
My work: The Blue Bastard
Genre & reading level: New Adult Fantasy
Word count: 153,371 words
Story is about two girls who discover their colour magic in a world where countries are coming to a clash. There's romance, cats, combat action, rock climbing and visually interesting magic.
I'm an avid fantasy reader/writer and would love to read! I am currently revising my own YA fantasy novel (quick pitch: early modern Mediterranean world +mythical creatures) . Would be willing to swap after some more revisions, but would also be happy just to read/cheerlead/ connect. shannongifford2@gmail.com
I'm polishing a YA fantasy with a bit of spice: gods, not quite love triangles, free will and choices, reckoning with one's emotions and past actions, found family.
Feel free to email me if you'd be interested in swapping a chapter or two to see if it is the right fit :) janekingwrites at gmail
I have an almost completed draft of a Middle Grade magical realism adventure.
Title: Dragon and Phoenix
The story is driven by twins who discover they are linked to a prophecy and have a destiny to fulfill.
I would love writer friends and a critique partner to work through voice, plot, pacing, and general feedback. I would love to do the same for a MG or YA manuscript.
I have completed a draft of a MG fantasy adventure (urban fantasy, with portal to secondary world). I am currently trying to rewrite the damn thing! Looking to connect with writers in similar genre for general cheerleading/critique etc. Feel free to get in touch if you'd like to connect.
I've got a MG fantasy and looking for additional writer friends. Let me know if you'd want to swap or beta or whatever. Hit me up if interested at williamjadams3@gmail.com
Here's the query on my MG:
I have a completed and polished 76K word YA thriller that I comp to TWO CAN KEEP A SECRET and SADIE. When 16-yo Addison's plan to catch her sister's murderer goes horribly awry, she must go totally off script if she's to avoid becoming the killer's next victim.
I am looking for someone who also writes thrillers (YA or A) and has a completed manuscript to swap pages. I just went through my final revision and would like feedback on pacing and plot (including any plot holes I may have opened along the way).
Hi, Hennah. Your book sounds fantastic, but I'm not sure I'm up for a story about grief right now as it may hit a bit too close to home right now. It looks like you have some other takers, so that's great. I'm sure they'll give you the feedback you need. Best of luck with your manuscript!
Hi! I'm looking for an accountability buddy/ cheerleader and CP for the project I'm currently working on. To test the waters, I'm looking for honest feedback on my hook, whether the magic system makes sense and the likeability of my characters. Am willing to support you in any shape you'd like, whether it's cheerleading or thorough critiquing :-).
I'm looking for someone also writing adult fantasy, since I'm not really equipped to critique MG or YA! I'm based in Europe.
Working title: The 10th Mage
Adult, aiming for ~100k
High Fantasy, Multi-POV (3 to be precise)
Vibes& tags: adventure, found family, queer,
Content warnings: assault (implied to have happened in the past/ not on page), post-war setting & a major tonal shift mid-way through the story
A (very unpolished and hastily writtern :,D) blurb:
One month of freedom for Isaac Farrow, finally escaping the restricting walls of his home where his duty as a mage and as guard captain keep him from living on his own terms. One moth full of lies and deception for Vind, trying desperately to keep his magic hidden from his own friends. One month for the catalyst hunting team to prove their worth and uncover a relic from the Great Mage War. One month until some of them will return - and none of it will matter anymore.
I'm an avid fantasy reader/writer and would love to read! I am currently revising my own YA fantasy novel (quick pitch: early modern Mediterranean world +mythical creatures, also multiple POVs) . Would love to read/cheerlead/ connect. shannongifford2@gmail.com
Hey! I'd love to check out this project. I'm currently revising an adult fantasy (snow white meets the snow queen, told like arkane studios' dishonored, more details in my comment). Could we connect? talesfromboredom@gmail.com
Hi Marie! I loved the blurb and how it ends in suspense :) I also write adult epic/high dark fantasy and don't shy away from dark themes, and I'm also based in Europe. I'm a good cheerleader and could help as a CP or BR, or even with general feedback for the storyline if you prefer. Let me know if you're interested at analoerbooks@gmail.com
When the emperor's autistic husband returns to his homeland to calm down uprisings, he is kidnapped by the rebels and must choose between his loyalty and love for his husband, or doing what's right and helping his people, and perhaps fall for a very attractive rebel fighter.
I'm almost finished with the second draft and am looking for a beta/critique partner who can help me identify the strenghts and weaknesses of the draft and help mainly with the developmental edits
CW: disordered eating, toxic relationship (not the main pairing)
Hi everyone😊Vampire rom-com set in Eastern Europe here -- early draft form. Seeking someone who can look at the overall strengths & weaknesses to tell me what the most interesting parts are & what they’d expect to happen next. I’m happy to read anything except erotica. Please send me a message with your contact details through the contact form on my website: www.jwellenhall.com
I’m looking for CPs and Betas. This is my fourth draft and I plan to query as soon as I can. I’m looking for constructive criticism, mostly big-picture notes (general plot, characters, pacing... )
Title: Blood of Abyssinia
Word count: 102k
Genre & age: YA Fantasy
It’s a multi-POV fantasy adventure story inspired by Ethiopian mythology. It follows a girl who has to team up with a ragtag group of dangerous people to find a hidden city of sorcerers in order to save her spirit-possessed brother.
Comps/tropes: THE STARDUST THIEF x A SONG OF WRAITHS & RUIN
- Found family
- Pantheon of gods
- Nature magic
- Spirit-infested forest
- East African setting
- Mythological creatures
I read mostly YA and Adult Fantasy/Sci-Fi. Occasionally MG too. I’d love to swap! We can work out the details :)
Oooh I'd also love to beta-read for this. It sounds really great! If you want to try critiqueing my work, that's fine, but I'm also fine just beta-reading some chapters for you :)
This sounds incredible. I'm an avid fantasy reader/writer and would love to read! I am currently revising my own YA fantasy novel--I'd also be willing to swap if you're interested (after I do some more revisions). But would also be honored just to read and connect.
This is such a wonderful idea! I'm taking a few minutes to comment on my lunch break, but am looking forward to seeing what everyone is working on!
Ardour- the title is in flux. This is a YA portal fantasy that follows a girl struggling to cope with her grief and losing her sense of self in the process. She follows frantic cries in the middle of the night and wakes the next morning on a ship in a new realm, Ardour, that is undergoing a transformation of its own.
The rough draft is approximately 65K. I am in working on the first round of revisions and am looking to have those completed April/May of this year. I'm looking for a critique partner that can help me identify strengths/weakness in the plot, character arc progression, world building. I would also benefit from a cheerleader or accountability partner to help me stay on track!
Hi Mug! Your story sounds interesting to me. I'm not sure if I would be a good fit because I'm writing in contemporary/adult but let me know what you think.
Your story idea sounds really amazing! In recent years I love reading about characters coping with grief and I love portal fantasy as well, so I would love to be one your chearleaders if you are interested!
Her Wicked Nature, a queer YA fantasy, set in a fictional Slavic/Jewish medieval world.
Main character, Miriyam, teams up with fellow outsider, Idzi, to solve a mystery and winds up unraveling the sinister history of her community, her family, and herself.
There are gods and saints, monsters and magic- imagine The Witcher meets the Sunnydale Scoobies.
Draft is complete, currently 97k, though I am actively revising.
I am seeking feedback on whether the manuscript successfully delivers on plot development, character arcs, and world building, and am hoping to begin querying agents soon!
Hi Jeri! I am revising a YA fantasy novel that sounds like it shares some similar themes with your project. (Quick pitch is the early modern Mediterranean world + mythical creatures). I would love to read your project, and if you're interested, maybe do some swapping later down the line (after some more revisions).
Hi Jeri! I'm also revising my YA fantasy in hopes of querying very soon. You can check out my post for it here (Title: Blood of Abyssinia). Email me at hailu.adreana@gmail.com if you're interested in swapping chapters!
Hi Jeri, I'm also working on a queer f/f YA fantasy about witches, sisters, and bargains with the god of death. I feel like we might be a good fit. Let me know if you want to try swapping a few chapters!
I love the witcher, gods and sainsts and a mystery in one novel?
Your story sounds really amazing and I would love be one of your chearleaders!
I write fantasy novel set in a vaguely inspired by ancient ethiopia city and a king who thinks himself of a god , a lost son who wants to bring glory to his hometown and a young girl stuck in the midst of a brewing revolution.
Hi all! I’m Ann and I’m hoping to find a CP who also writes YA fantasy/ contemporary fantasy. Right now I’m looking at someone to be a cheerleader as I work through my first draft.
Anxiety has forced Lo into an isolated life. Her island is the last human settlement in a destroyed world.
When a boy washes ashore and lures her back to his city, she finds the world survived but the so did the source of its destruction.
Hey Ann, I'm not sure what solar punk is, but I'm intrigued. Finishing the first draft can be challenging, but I've had a cheerleader of my own and I know how much that can help. If you want, let's check if we're compatible and send me a few chapters at yoanna[dot]novakova[at]gmail[dot]com ;)
Hi! I'd love someone to read my UK based YA Valkyrie. It's a Norse mythology contemporary blend. Kara died, except she didn't and now she's haunted by dreams and visions of a fantastical life she can't possibly have had as she faces a manslaughter charge for a crime she can't remember. Twitter pitch: "Half norse myth, half murder mystery. Kara doesn’t remember that she was at a party, why she stole a car or why her DNA is on a murdered boy or why she keeps seeing ravens, winged women, or everyone’s souls..."
Hi Beth! This sounds super interesting! I'll be honest I don't normally go for the contemporary side of YA anymore but your premise is really tempting me!! I love stories based on norse mythology! If you are open to swapping with a more NA fantasy romance you can email me at akane414@gmail.com
I am a avid fantasy reader and love mythology and a good murder mystery, if you want to connetct feel free to email me under: tigesttypes [at]gmail [dot] come
I’m also typing this out during my lunch break, but later I’ll take a look at their glorious list later. I have a little community on Wattpad, but I’ve always wanted to try having a CP outside of a bookclub setting of groups and assignments.
FANA- a dark high fantasy, with multiple lgbt romances, that covers adventurers, guilds, and other isekai anime-related topics. Reading level is either an aged-up YA or New Adult.
Currently at 50,000 words but I’m not even halfway through the story (I envision it as a lengthy standalone hah).
I’m looking for someone to engage with the story. Someone who will read for overall enjoyment levels and plot credibility. It covers concepts from gaming and things I haven’t a lot of expertise in, so I’m worried about that.
Looking to connect with another experienced writer :-)
How Black the Bones - dark YA urban fantasy (with some rural settings) - finished at 74k. When Ellie’s father’s wizardly bones are stolen from his fresh grave in modern day Tennessee, Ellie begins a journey of retribution to learn who stole them--and why. At her side is hostage-turned-frenemy Jackson, clever as the devil and twice as handsome, with all the trouble to go along with it. On their cross-country trek to stop the sinister plan for her father's bones, Jackson’s deadly secrets and Ellie’s growing powers will wreak havoc not only on their lives, but their souls.
The book is super polished, I've been lightly querying on and off. I mostly want to form a connection for future YA and adult fantasy projects (namely one about a necromancer priestess hunting a supernatural serial killer in Victorian-era alternate Europe).
Historically my biggest weakness as a writer is with overall structure, so for the past few years I've been studying structure and how to leverage character traits to fuel overall themes and ratchet up the tension. Got burned out on publishing world for a while (agented, never sold anything), so my focus these days is on my general well-being as a reader and writer instead of grinding words. That means I'm not producing stuff super quickly, but I'll give great, detailed feedback on your work :-)
I'm 33, living in the beautiful South, with a career in Human Resources. Some of my favorite writers are Maggie Stiefvater, Laini Taylor, Scott Lynch, Anne Rice, and Kristin Cashore.
Hello! I’m also looking for a longer term cp for various projects, and yours sound awesome. I’m very big on structure (to the point I’ve revamped my writing process), and have been actively trying to improve it in my own work…with mixed success, but hey. My email is maianae@gmail.com if you’re interested in chatting more?
Hi Savannah, I feel like I might be in a similar situation and we might be a good fit. I’ve been writing and querying for several years and am signed with an agent so I’m familiar with the whole process. I’m looking for a long term CP that I can work with on several books. I also write YA fantasy, and read widely in the genre. I’m currently working on a manuscript about sisters and magic and journeys into the underworld. If that sounds interesting please email me at moghedien at gmail.com. :D
If you're still looking to connect with another experienced writer, please feel free to reach out. I've been writing on and off for years and have taken multiple courses / worked with writers groups and CPs for years as well. Taking the first venture into querying this year. I try to balance writing with life as well and am happy to work and exchange on whatever pace is good with you. I've got an adult fantasy pretty well polished and a draft of a ya fantasy done and drafting (slowly) another fantasy project. Feel free to send me an email at esdodge [at] gmail [dot] com.
Looking for a CP and/or reader. Currently have a couple projects -
Adult fantasy @ 92k | completed, looking for a final pass | The Witches Heart x Serpent and Dove x Midnight Mass | features cognizant trees, nefarious magic, religious conflict, and an exploration of grief
A forest witch must face her darkest fears and an angry god to save her home and the young girl who threatens to burn it all down.
YA fantasy draft @102k | currently editing | queer Beauty & the Beast x The Red Queen x Six of Crows
NA fantasy, just started drafting |
Happy for a one project swap or a lasting CP. Am flexible with timelines. Have 2 young kids and 2 dogs so appreciate some flexibility as well :) I can be a cheerleader or provide critiques. I work in environmental field so can also help with any nature aspects of a story.
Hi Em! As an avid YA/adult fantasy reader and writer, I would love to read any of your projects. I am working through revisions of my 160k (trying to cut this down..) YA fantasy novel that sounds like it shares some similar themes with your adult fantasy. Would be happy to do a swap (after some more revisions) or just to read.
Hey Em! I love Midnight Mass and both your stories sound amazing! I would love to swap chapters. I'm on the last stages of revision on my YA fantasy, hoping to query soon. My WIP has nature magic elements so it'd be cool to get your eyes on it :) Email me at hailu.adreana@gmail.com if interested.
Hey Em, both of your projects sounds interesting. I read mostly NA/A Dark Fantasy, but I'm also big fan of RQ and SoC so your YA project calls to me a lot too. I'd be happy to swap, if you feel my stories are a good fit, or just to BR/help with general feedback, I'm also looking for a cheerleader :) If you're interested, e-mail me at analoerbooks@gmail.com
Hi Em! I'm a big fan of fantasy in practically any reading level! I would love to read any of your projects if you would like an extra CP. (I would totally be a sucker for your adult fantasy) I am currently working through revisions of my own NA fantasy romance (114k will definitely be cut down) that I think would share some similar themes with your Adult fantasy. Let me know if you would like to swap!
Genre: Gothic Thriller (historical) - An American girl travels to England to escape her family's secrets and hoping to marry well in 19th C. Regency-era London. Unfortunately, she may have entered a circle of friends dabbling in even darker matters, threatening her reputation and the fabric of nature as they know it. This is a "is it supernatural, or is it all in their minds?" type of story and features some dark themes and violence.
Reading level: YA
Word count: 90K
Looking for a cheerleader and gut check reader! I've been writing this novel for a couple years and keep restarting it. I recently did a big plot point change and re-started *again*... I would love to work with someone who can help me finally take this novel over the finish line! Accountability, letting me know overall "what works, what doesn't," that sort of thing. Also would love to provide the same in return!
Hi, Erin! My name is Lou. Our projects are a bit different (mine is an adult literary thriller about a boyband and its fandom), but I'm fascinated by your pitch. I'm totally up for swapping a few chapters or just reading, if you find my work isn't up your alley.
Hi Lou, thanks for the reply! Your work sounds really interesting, too, I would be happy to try swapping chapters! My email is erinpagewrites AT gmail DOT com.
Hello guys! Love this idea and hopefully this will give me the kick up the butt I really need👀 Id also love to get to know more people in this field and I’m a very active critque partner if anyone is interested❤️
Title: N/A (undecided- I have an issue with naming! 🥴 I’ll decide when its done )
Genre: Romance, Fantasy, Mystery/Thriller
Reading Level: YA
Word-count: 20,000
Looking for: a good motivator and avid reader of fantasy YA/romance who can offer some great feedback and insight!🙂
Hello! I would love to help motivate/read your work! I am also working on a young adult fantasy (draft one is done, starting round 1 of revisions). If you are interested in reading, would be happy to swap after I finish up some more revisions, but I am also happy just to read if you don't have time!
hello Shannon! And thats cool! Ofc Id love to read your work and Im so glad its the same genre!! Im not as far into it as you are but some feedback would be nice xx email me at riham.hussain@hotmail.co.uk
Hello, my name is Lou! My book HEROINES is a darkly funny adult literary thriller. I like to describe it as a thriller-shaped MY YEAR OF REST AND RELAXATION for the Twitter age. It's told in dual time lines, from the point of view of a depressed, sick girl who, as she becomes a fan of a popular boyband, is drawn into a circle of girls who would do anything for the boys they worship; and from the point of a view of a member of the boyband, years later, as he tries to redeem himself after several tumultuous, scandal-filled months, and must face not only his own immoral actions which helped him secure his spot at the top, but everything he made the girls – his fans – do.
It's pretty similar in mood/style to books such as Boy Parts by Eliza Clark and Bunny by Mona Awad. Trigger warnings include murder, illness (cancer), abuse mention, suicidal ideation, blood, violence.
I have a pretty well polished draft sitting at 100k. I have finished several drafts over the last couple of years and am looking for a few final read-throughs as I prepare to hopefully query in the next couple of months.
Hi! Your story sounds really interesting to me. I think we could be a good fit for Critique Partners! Check my post out and let me know what you think?
Pitch: A Tarot reader from the "bad" side of town is recruited into an elite magic school. At first, it's all about fitting into Society, courting a rich lover, and excelling in classes. But when students start getting murdered and the authorities bungle the case, she and her friends will have to figure out who's killing them--or be next.
Genre: Fantasy, Dark academia, Murder mystery
Reading level: Adult (CWs: Sex, Murder)
Word count: 62k and counting (it's in progress)
What you’re looking for in a reader: A CP who can trade chapters, or Developmental comments about the plot and whether it makes sense, Eventually a thorough editorial pass
Genre: Contemporary, thriller/horror. It's about family dynamics and character relationships.
At its heart, its a story about Peter, who is a grieving father trying to raise his two children. His older daughter, starts showcasing increasingly escalating bevahior as she becomes obsessed with the forest behind their house. And Peter searches for answers to help himself heal.
Reading level: Adult
Word count: ~80k. I am currently about to finish draft 2.
Hello, this sounds fun! My stuff is YA and while the story I posted here is a fairytale, I’ve got a couple other projects in this vein. So maybe a matchish? My email is maianae@gmail.com
Hiiii CJ!!! I’m willing to help with whatever you need if you’re still looking for people. My WIP is also unfinished, and I can trade chapters if you’re interested, but even if you aren’t I can still help with yours, whatever you would need!
I'm always looking for writer friends, so we can cheer each other on, but also looking for a critique partner. I would love to read your book and you can read mine and we can discuss and critique each other's work. Once I finish this second draft I have 2 people in my personal life who will be reading it and would love another unbiased reader.
A bit about me.. I'm 28 years old, female, living in the US. I work full time at a tech firm and love the outdoors. I have a dog and a fiance and when I'm not working, or outside, I'm writing. I'm an avid reader and writer. Things I love to consume: Dark fantasy romance books, Horror/Thrillers, True crime, and others! I like stories that are strange, but all consuming, and take me on an emotional journey.
This sounds right up my alley! I love horror/thrillers, especially when they involve forests and family dynamics! I see you have a lot of other potential matches on the thread, and my mystery/horror is YA rather than adult, but if you would be interested in trading some pages, feel free to email me at bethany.laurell@gmail.com
When You're Home- contemporary fiction, ya/adultish, upmarket
Summary- queer coming of age story. After big summer internship plans fall through you're forced to move home for the summer to the town that's been haunting you since you left. A lot's changed you've come out as queer dated girls and started to come to terms with all of the trauma that growing up here caused. Things are easier when you're home but what does that mean when your hometown holds more horror than help.
Word count- about 3K in current draft
What I'm Looking for- initially I'd like a gut check and a cheerleader. This is a project that I've worked on for a while but this most recent version I'd love some overall feedback and encouragement.
This sounds really interesting. We both seem to have MC’s who are returning to the home towns that’ve haunted them. Check out my post and see if we’d be a good fit. If so, you can email me at theblufftonbookbrat@gmail.com
Working Title: Gone Like Mist, about a girl forced to drop out of high school and give up her dreams of college after her younger sister's disappearance, until she receives a ghostly premonition indicating her sister might still be alive...for now. Inspired by the "Platte River death ship" legend which you can read about here: https://www.legendsofamerica.com/death-ship-wyoming/
Genre: Mystery with elements of supernatural horror
Reading level: YA
Word count: Currently 106,000, but I need to trim it down significantly!
What you’re looking for in a reader: A mix of thorough critique and cheerleading, with emphasis on filling plot holes, fleshing out character arcs, and beefing up the mystery/horror aspects as this is my first attempt at writing a mystery. I JUST finished the first draft a couple of days ago, so it's still in pretty rough shape!
I’d love to swap if you’re interested. Check out my post to see if we’d be a good fit. If not, no worries. If so, you can email me at theblufftonbookbrat@gmail.com
World Count: Currently re-drafting, final expected word count 160 k
What Ii'm looking for in a reader: Happy for someone who can nitpick and go brutal, but does need to be able to balance it with excitement and hype for the parts they like. I'm looking for big picture commentary at the moment, are things confusing, were do you lose interest, can you pick up on the foreshadowing?
Pitch: A failing kingdom whose magic is dying suddenly finds a young man of great but locked power, his power could save the crown or plunge the land into war depending on who wields it. A magic user determined for greatness, a trainee spy whose secrets are coming to light, a rebel keen to bleed the crown and a princess who doesn't care if a choice is bad, as long as she makes it.
All want the power this young man has but what are they willing to do to keep it?
Hi Clare! High fantasy and political intrigue is right up my alley. If you want to look at my post detailing what I have to offer and feel interested, then I would love to try being a helpful reader to you. If you decide to give my story a chance, then you can reach me at dracoherondale@gmail.com. Looking forward to working with you, though no pressure is intended! If you don’t think my story vibes with you, I won’t be offended!
Hi Clare! I'm interested in reading this. I see some elements that I enjoy writing about too, but also some that I'd love to learn to write about (like politics-focused fantasy). I'm working on a NA Fantasy of about the same length. We could exchange, but I'm also just willing to beta-read. If you want to get in touch, you can email me at ysputs@gmail.com
Hi Clare, I've got an adult high fantasy that's just as long and in need of some fresh eyes on it. I'm looking for the same type of feedback, brutal honesty and hype person where needed! If you're interested, shoot me an email at williamjadams3@gmail.com.
Here's my story:
An orphan, without a trueborn name, returns to the city of her birth to uncover her past. Hounded by the servants of the Dark God and dying from the poisonous mist that covers the land, her path leads to one of the magical seals protecting the holy ruin of Eminence.
A father, murdered and reborn, aims to bring down the floating fortress hovering over his homeland. Burdened by loss, he's willing to sacrifice his soul to free his city and get revenge for the destruction of his family.
A mother, captured and bonded to a daemon, kills in the name of the Dark God so she can free her tortured daughter. Relentless in her vengeance, she hunts the one person who could end her suffering, the man who would destroy her vile master.
A drake, the banished hatchling of a failed advisor, seeks his father’s stolen horns. Untested, he desires to right his father’s wrongs in the eyes of the gods and restore his family’s honor.
As all converge in the occupied desert city where the world’s fuel source is mined, one family's bond will be tested. Old betrayals will resurface, anger and resentment will flourish, but one thing remains clear: blood rules all.
Um, how long do we wait for a response before we realize that no one is interested?
I would wait at least a few days! There are so many comments, I think it takes people a long time to go through them all! 🥰
Thank you.
So, no takers. I'm peacing out.
Hi Danya! I think we could be a good match. Please check out my post and let me know what you think :)
Hi Nathalie! I sent you an email :)
ME!
i already know this lol
Your book sounds interesting and I'm also looking for writer friends and CPs. If you're interested in mine please let me know as I'd love to help with yours!
A Symphony to the Dark - A Welsh dark Fantasy/ Supernatural about a girl who longs to be a singer, a cursed house and the darkness that stalks the halls.
Rough draft is 65K but will hopefully be completed around 85K.
Looking for a cheerleader to help me through second draft and someone to read through and point out where the plot is completely going wrong (or right…which I hope happens too).
Diolch/ Thank you!!
Hi Naomi,
I left a message for Kate, and I’d like to see if you and I could help each other out too, if you’re up for that? Chapter by chapter, so we can keep the feedback quick and easy?
Thanks.
Hi Naomi,
I'm jumping on the train that Carryn hopped below (I think we might all dig our different-yet-similar flavor of stories.
I would love to chat! YAY! There's not many of us who write GNs! LD
Send me an email at vandsmedia at gmail
That would be awesome! Ok, I will!
Hi Kate,
Would you like to do a chapter by chapter swop?
That sounds great, Carryn! I won't be ready to start sending chapters until late spring (my first draft right now only makes sense to me) but I'm open/ready to start reading others work, cheerleading and helping transform challenges into breakthroughs.
Hi Kate,
That's perfect.
All my best,
Carryn
Hi Kate, we’re on a similar timeline, and both fantasy, albeit different types. Mine is more of a colorful high fantasy. If you’re interested in swapping, let me know!
Hi Leslie!
I would definitely like to learn more (I love high fantasy) and see if we could be a good fit for each other (and at the very least, you've now met a new writing friend!). You can reach me at kmrnyu at gmail.
you said Monstress and that's a buzz word if I ever did hear one! I'd love to swap!
That would be lovely! This forum is fantastic and I am loving that we've all connected and found solidarity and support in one day. I will reach out to the email provided by end of week!
A Kingdom of Secrets & Sacrifice
Urban Fantasy, Time Travel
YA Crossover
90,000
I'd love you to read until you're bored and then tell me where you stopped, so that I can figure out where I'm losing the agents.
I'll read what you have in turn. I also have an audio version (pretty lifelike), since it's sometimes easier to read on the move.
Thank you!
Hi there! I'd love to read your book, especially since I enjoy a good time travel story. I've got a lot of experience with structuring novels, so I'd be happy to help you try and figure out where you're losing reader momentum. My book is a YA Fantasy around 101,000 words and you can see more about it in my post below!
Hi Emily! That sounds great! I’d love to work with you on your book too. My email address is carrynkerr@gmail.com.
Title: Fusion, about two girls living disparate lives on a warring continent who discover they share a telepathic bond.
Genre: Science-Fiction/Dystopia
Reading level: YA/NA (still deciding which)
Word count: 100k + 😬
Looking for someone to beta and/or critique. The story has only ever seen my eyes and it needs an objective, clinical look.
Hi Casey! I feel like our stories sound pretty similar in length/content (you can ref my comment if you'd like!), but would you like to swap a few chapters? I'd be happy to help -- I've beta read and done line edits before
I would love to swap some chapters! Shall I shoot you an e-mail? Mine is georgescidney@gmail.com
Awesome! Mine is cmadelinec01@gmail.com
Hi Casey, would love to swap with someone else working on sci-fi. Details of mine are below. Email me at ameliahearn@gmail.com if you'd like to swap some chapters. Thanks!

Hi Casey!
Kira
Hi, I would love to connect! Shoot me an email with details of your WIP georgescidney@gmail.com
i am interested! Any assistance is appreciated, haha.
Awesome! You can email me at lesliearambula@gmail.com if you want to chat more or figure out a better way to communicate.
coolio. Thank you so much! Ill send you an email later today, likely under the name “galofthesage”
Hi!!
Oh my lord!!! You had me at scifi fantasy and Puerto Rico!
I’ll totally be up to help you trim that baby down!! You are more than welcome to email me at emdiazandu[at]gmail[.]com
You can email me at nicolewilbur@gmail.com
Whoops! Should be nicolewilbur22@gmail.com
The Lost Kingdom
Hi Becca,
I also have a MG Fantasy about the same word count.
Would love that. brittmcdaniel93@gmail.com

I love everything about this!!!! You can find me at @JessCreaden on Twitter or contact me through my blog at jrcreaden.com
Reached out via Twitter messages.
"Epitaph" - YA Fantasy with a touch of adventure
Just emailed you! I'm definitely interested :)
I’m interested! I also posted my work above -- let me know if you’d be down to exchange!
Title: Beholden to God & King
Genre: High Fantasy
Reading level: YA
Word count: NA
You won me at YA Fantasy
This sounds heavenly! And we seem much like kindred spirits! I would love to do a review swap. So do I email you or...?
Heres mine: mbalixabela@gmail.com
I hope i find some kindred spirits on here!
Cheers!
Let me know if you're interested, thanks!
Hi, that sounds very cool! (Says the girl who has a shelved project with familiar-based magic 😁😁). Do you have a synopsis I could looks at and see about exchanging chapters after? Cheers!
Yoanna! This Bulgarian here wants to read your Bulgarian folklore, so *grabby hands*!
Awesome! Email me at hailu.adreana@gmail.com and we'll go from there :)
Hey Yoanna, my current manuscript is sci-fi, but I'm also getting ready to query and a mom of two little ones, so I thought we might have a bit in common. Details of my project are below. Email me at ameliahearn@gmail.com if you're interested in swapping chapters. Thanks!

Hey, I have a degree in creative writing, too! 😃
Your book sounds pretty cool. I have an old/left for the future project that explores some similar situations, so I'll be happy to read more in that realm.
I'll email you later today ;)
Hi Yoanna, your project looks really interesting. I'd love to do a swap of a few chapters to see if we might be a good fit. I've also done a lot of work with other CPs getting queries ready to go. I'm currently working on a queer YA fantasy about about three witch sisters dealing with a magical bargain in a small town. There's a lot of necromancy and secrets involved. Let me know if you are interested and we can swap synopsis or pages. :D
Oooh, witches and a bargain, what could possibly go wrong! 😉
Yeah, sure. I need to work on my synopsis for the YA project anyway, so maybe you could help? That'd be great :)
Email me at yoanna.novakova@gmail.com
Thanks for the interest!
That sounds great! I'm going to send you an email if that's okay :)
Hi Andrea,
If you're interested in more than one reader I'd love to read for you. I've been a CP in the past for YA and am writing an upmarket YA myself. You can email me at lientaylore@gmail.com if you'd like to chat further.
Title: Project Divided
Working title: Shoes
Good luck! :)
Hi Elizabeth! This seems right up my alley and seems like it shares similar themes to my own NA fantasy romance (114k) I truly am a sucker for enemies to lovers. If you are interested in swapping let me know! You can email me at akane414@gmail.com
Thank you!
I fear for what having a senior dog as a focal character will do to my heartstrings, but I am definitely interested. I wrote a brief synopsis of my current WIP. Please email me at twistingallegoriesagain[at]gmail[dot]com if you'd like to exchange a few chapters.
Hello! I will send you an email. I can at least assure you that the dog doesn't die ... but I do hope it tugs on your heartstrings anyway!
Hey there! Your WIP sounds like a lot of fun! Yes, I'd love to swap a few pages. You can email me at laurenhopkar at gmail.
Hey! Your stuff sounds awesome. Company is one of my favorite shows! I’d love to get in touch about a swap. You can email me at laurenhopkar at gmail.
Hi Zack! You got me at crow familiar named Pierre ;) Would you like to try exchange a chapter just to give each other feedback and see if it's a fit?
I’d love to!
My email is zacharydigirolamo@gmail.com if you’re still interested!
Check your inbox! :D
As soon as I read the words gay warlock you had me hooked.
I've commented below about my near future dystopic fantasy which I'm just about to take through revisions.
I'd love to share chapters if you'd be interested?
Yes I’d be interested! Send me an email at zacharydigirolamo [at] gmail!
What Tangled Webs We Weave
I’d like to help! My email is zacharydigirolamo@gmail.com and I posted above as well :)
Wonderful! I've sent an email to connect!
Hello! This sounds fun! Would love to swap.
Also on Insta at the same: janekingwrites
I'm sending you a message now! Also added you on insta (I'm art_by_vanna, bc I mostly use insta for drawing). I love your book & tarot aesthetic!
Hi Everyone,
I have an almost completed draft of a Middle Grade magical realism adventure.
Title: Dragon and Phoenix
The story is driven by twins who discover they are linked to a prophecy and have a destiny to fulfill.
I would love writer friends and a critique partner to work through voice, plot, pacing, and general feedback. I would love to do the same for a MG or YA manuscript.
Let me know!
Hi Kalo,
I have completed a draft of a MG fantasy adventure (urban fantasy, with portal to secondary world). I am currently trying to rewrite the damn thing! Looking to connect with writers in similar genre for general cheerleading/critique etc. Feel free to get in touch if you'd like to connect.
Thanks
Chris
Hi Chris, sounds good. Let’s connect. My email is kalowinters@gmail.com.
Hi Kalo,
I've got a MG fantasy and looking for additional writer friends. Let me know if you'd want to swap or beta or whatever. Hit me up if interested at williamjadams3@gmail.com
Here's the query on my MG:
Hi Bill, Your story sounds interesting! I will email you on the weekend and we can chat about swapping chapters etc.
Loughshore (Hall & Monroe #1)
Mystery - Conspiracy Thriller/Northern Irish Crime
Adult
Currently at 44k pushing toward 70k
Looking for all of the above; gut checks, editorial pass, cheerleader, and all around writing buddy!
Hi Lisa! I think we could be a good match. Please check out my post :)
Hi Hennah! Yes your manuscript sounds really interesting! my email is lisahuntw at gmail dot com
Hi! I write in thriller/contemporary adult. Feel free to check my post out and let me know what you think.
Reverse Time (very rough working title)
Adult m/m fantasy romance of 98.000 words
Hello everyone!

I read mostly YA and Adult Fantasy/Sci-Fi. Occasionally MG too. I’d love to swap! We can work out the details :)
Thank you!!
Thank you, Nathalie! Emailing you rn
Oooh I'd also love to beta-read for this. It sounds really great! If you want to try critiqueing my work, that's fine, but I'm also fine just beta-reading some chapters for you :)
Thank you, Yavanna :) I'd definitely like to swap chapters if you're ready. Email me at hailu.adreana@gmail.com so we can work it out!
This sounds incredible. I'm an avid fantasy reader/writer and would love to read! I am currently revising my own YA fantasy novel--I'd also be willing to swap if you're interested (after I do some more revisions). But would also be honored just to read and connect.
Shannon, thank you! I hope to hear more about your WIP. Email me at hailu.adreana@gmail.com so we can work things out :)
Hello! This sounds fun! Would love to swap.
I'm polishing a YA fantasy with a bit of spice: gods, not quite love triangles, free will and choices, reckoning with one's emotions and past actions, found family.

Hi Adri,
Your story and the comps sound amazing!!!
I am Tigest, a fellow Ethiopian and avid fantasy reader I would love to connect with you and talk how it is like to write fantasy with our background.
I am interested in Beta reading for you and being a chearleader! I am not that far ahead iwth my own manuscript yet to feel ready to swap.
Would love to hear back from you!
You can email me under:tigesttypes at gmail.com
Hey Tigest!
Omg I'm so glad to have found another Ethiopian writer through this :) I would absolutely love to keep in touch.
Hi Mug,
Your story idea sounds really amazing! In recent years I love reading about characters coping with grief and I love portal fantasy as well, so I would love to be one your chearleaders if you are interested!
you can email me under: tigesttypes at gmail.com!
Thank you!
Hi Jeri! I am revising a YA fantasy novel that sounds like it shares some similar themes with your project. (Quick pitch is the early modern Mediterranean world + mythical creatures). I would love to read your project, and if you're interested, maybe do some swapping later down the line (after some more revisions).
Hi Shannon,
Thanks for your interest! And apologies for the delayed response, I had some family in town these past few days.
If you’d like to chat more/see if we might make good writing buddies, you can reach me at jerirosenthal@gmail.com.
Look forward to hearing from you!
Hi Amanda,
Thanks for your interest! And apologies for the delayed response, I had some family in town these past few days.
If you’d like to chat more/see if we might make good writing buddies, you can reach me at jerirosenthal@gmail.com.
Look forward to hearing from you!
Hi Jeri,
I love the witcher, gods and sainsts and a mystery in one novel?
Your story sounds really amazing and I would love be one of your chearleaders!
I write fantasy novel set in a vaguely inspired by ancient ethiopia city and a king who thinks himself of a god , a lost son who wants to bring glory to his hometown and a young girl stuck in the midst of a brewing revolution.
Hi Tigest,
Thanks for your interest! And apologies for the delayed response, I had some family in town these past few days.
If you’d like to chat more/see if we might make good writing buddies, you can reach me at jerirosenthal@gmail.com.
Look forward to hearing from you!
Working (not quite) title: Moana X Atlantis
Genre: Fantasy/ solar punk
Reading level: YA
Word count: maybe 90k? It’s still WIP
Thank you 😊
Hey Ann, I'm not sure what solar punk is, but I'm intrigued.
Rough draft approx 86k.
Hi Beth! This sounds super interesting! I'll be honest I don't normally go for the contemporary side of YA anymore but your premise is really tempting me!! I love stories based on norse mythology! If you are open to swapping with a more NA fantasy romance you can email me at akane414@gmail.com
Hi Beth would love to beta for you !
CW: lots of violence and violent themes
Thanks!
Hey Savannah -
If you're still looking to connect with another experienced writer, please feel free to reach out.
Cheers!
Hi all!
Hi Allison! I'd definitely be open to swapping. Feel free to send me an email at esdodge [at] gmail [dot] com
Title: Bury Me By Night

Hi, Danya! I sent you an email!

Hi, Hennah! Just read through your post and I think so too. Would you be up for exchanging a few chapters? My email is lourdesbellerose@gmail.com

Hey! Thanks for reaching out. I can definitely do horror. Perhaps we trade a couple chapters and see how it goes?
Hello, this sounds fun! My stuff is YA and while the story I posted here is a fairytale, I’ve got a couple other projects in this vein. So maybe a matchish? My email is maianae@gmail.com
Hiiii CJ!!! I’m willing to help with whatever you need if you’re still looking for people. My WIP is also unfinished, and I can trade chapters if you’re interested, but even if you aren’t I can still help with yours, whatever you would need!

Hi everyone!
Title: Project AWE
Genre: Contemporary, thriller/horror. It's about family dynamics and character relationships.
At its heart, its a story about Peter, who is a grieving father trying to raise his two children. His older daughter, starts showcasing increasingly escalating bevahior as she becomes obsessed with the forest behind their house. And Peter searches for answers to help himself heal.
Reading level: Adult
Word count: ~80k. I am currently about to finish draft 2.
Title: TBD (project name: Turquoise)
Genre: High fantasy, politics focused
Reading Level: Adult
