First off, a huge thank you to those of you who read every chapter! I cannot express to you how much fun—and really, how motivating it has been to see your reactions.

In fact, I have completely changed my mind about “starting over from scratch,” and I’m now pondering how I can make the changes I know this book needs.

And yes, there are so many changes I would make. Rereading this as I shared it made me cringe. It’s not bad, by any means, but it’s not how I write now.

I figured, though, since I’ve shown you this “rough” draft, why not take you further? Why not walk you through all the changes as I make them?

So here we go. This is the first in what will be an ongoing series and a detailed behind-the-scenes look at revision.

I’ll be honest that it’s kind of…weird? uncomfortable? scary? for me to talk about all of this because it means I have to lay out all of my story flaws—ones you might not have noticed!—and really show you how the sausage is made.
